Increase in insurance coverage on ATHENS vehicle contracts 9.84

The mandatory minimum limits for civil liability insurance have been raised from 1,220,000 euros to 1,300,000 euros for bodily injury per victim and to 1,300,000 euros for material damage per accident, regardless of the number of victims.

According to a law of the Executive Committee of the Bank of Greece (195 / 29-11-2021), as of January 1, 2022, the minimum insurance coverage amounts for the compulsory third party liability insurance against car accidents have been revised.

This means that new insurance policies for all-purpose vehicles concluded from January 1, 2022, as well as renewals for vehicles already insured, will be issued with the new increased insurance limits of the legislation and drivers will now have greater insurance coverage. for accidents to third parties.

Concretely, the decision stipulates the following:

1. The revision of the minimum amounts of insurance cover in article 6 para. 5 of pd 237/1986 in accordance with the Harmonized Consumer Price Index (HICP) covering all Member States and as amended in the Communication from the European Commission to the European Parliament and the Council 2021 / C 423/11.

2. From 1 January 2022, the minimum amounts of insurance cover provided for in article 6 para. 5 of pd 237/1986 cannot be less than the following:

a) In the event of bodily injury 1,300,000 euros, per victim.

b) In the event of material damage 1,300,000 euros, by accident, regardless of the number of victims.
